Shopping for Equal at Walmart #CBias #EqualCanada

Living in the middle of nowhere can be a real problem sometimes. I had plans to make a trip to London, which is a 45 minute trip to get to Walmart and buy some Equal today, but a broken handle on our van door and a stormy day made it clear that I wasn’t going to have that chance. So I did the next best thing, and sent my husband to the Walmart in Kitchener that is near his school.

I had scanned the Walmart grocery flyer and store flyer online, and even used their handy online tool where they highlight only the roll back items, but couldn’t find Equal in the flyers at all. So, I gave my husband the instructions that we provided to me: find the Rollback of Equal {in the yellow canister} which is on sale for $7.97 {compared to $9.97}.

When he got inside, he went in search of Equal. He had a hard time finding it. I guess it was in the pharmacy, which would have confused me too, so I can’t give him a hard time about it. When he did find it, he couldn’t find the yellow canister that I had instructed him to find. He found all of these Equal products.

As you can see in the picture, there was an Equal product on rollback, only it wasn’t the one we wanted. He did text me to find out if he should buy it, and I told him to pick up the Equal that we can use to bake with, and reminded him that it should be in a yellow canister and on sale. He couldn’t find it, so I said to go ahead and get any Equal product that we can bake with. This is what he bought…

Unless he plans on opening every packet to get enough to bake with, this isn’t going to work for me. However, I do believe that he couldn’t find the product we needed and the weather was not conducive to driving two hours to London to look at another Walmart, so I will have to head there tomorrow and look for the correct product.

It wasn’t a completely wasted trip though, because he picked up some chicken and shake n bake so he could make us dinner…and if he’s cooking, I’m happy! And with my weight watchers program, these packets will save me a point for every coffee I drink…and I love my coffee. My husband is also a great baker, so I may recruit his help for the next portion of this project, which is to make a recipe using Equal. You will see that soon!

Comments

  1. Man if we didn’t have a walmart close I would be one unhappy little camper LOL. I don’t particularly like sugar substitutes but that’s b/c they all have some funky after taste to me LOL.

  2. I have to always make sure I have equal on hand for the coffee drinkers in the family, great post!

  3. I hate when I can’t find what I need.

  4. Karen says:

I keep equal on hand for my MIL.

  5. Courtney says:

Wow, I can’t believe how many varieties of equal they have now.

  6. Kathy says:

This is exactly why I do the grocery shopping in our house. My husband means well, but…

  7. I get so frustrated when stores don’t carry certain products that they show in the flyer!

    • Sam says:

To be fair, I couldn’t find Equal in the flyer, so either it was in last week’s flyer or the information I had was not correct.

  8. Linda Fast says:

Walmart is coming to Stratford very soon. I do not know if they have broke ground yet but my kids are very excited as they live in Stratford. Hopefully Stratford will be closer for you than driving into London. I live in Leamington and the majority of the time Walmart staff tells me we only had 5 of that item in the advertised flyer and we are sold out, Sorry! I rarely shop at Walmart because it is always a wasted trip.

    • Sam says:

Yes, Stratford is very close to me and I’m excited for the new Walmart. I just wish they didn’t waste so much time arguing about it!

  9. Oh the troubles! Look on the bright side, hubby went and not you?!!
    lol

  10. I’ve never used it…

  11. Tazim says:

I guess I would have bought the individual packets, too—given the storm and what not. Ugh, a 2 hour drive for groceries? I don’t envy you that.

    • Sam says:

I actually don’t mind them at all, and I could have used them for my recipe if I had read it first, lol. They are great for coffee! We have a grocery store in my town, just no department stores.

  12. I remember when we didn’t have walmart and I had to drive an hour to the closest one. it was a big one also! But so dangerous as I would spend way too much money when I went there..

    I dislike when I can’t find what I am looking for.. :(

  13. Jennifer says:

wow the pharmacy is a strange place to keep the sweetener

  14. It’s too bad you weren’t able to find the canister… I got confused finding it in the pharmacy as well.
